Timothy Schemmel is a Senior Associate Attorney with Stange Law Firm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, bringing more than twenty years of legal practice to his work with clients. He approaches each case with a practical mindset and an emphasis on preparation, communication, and thoughtful problem-solving. Timothy understands that legal matters can involve significant personal and financial considerations, and he works to ensure clients have a clear understanding of the process, timelines, and potential outcomes as their cases move forward.

Timothy earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa. His academic background supports his ability to present information clearly, whether in written filings, courtroom advocacy, or direct conversations with clients. This foundation allows him to explain complex legal issues straightforwardly and to adapt his approach to meet the needs of each individual case.

Throughout his career, Timothy has represented clients in a wide range of legal matters involving domestic-related issues, juvenile proceedings, and contested litigation. Before joining Stange Law Firm, he most recently served as a Staff Attorney with Iowa Legal Aid, where he provided direct representation to low-income and vulnerable individuals in matters involving domestic violence, housing stability, and income security. Earlier in his career, he spent many years with the Iowa State Public Defender’s Office, handling cases from misdemeanors through serious felony charges, as well as juvenile and child welfare proceedings. His professional background also includes service as an Assistant City Attorney and experience in private practice, giving him a well-rounded perspective on litigation, negotiation, and case management.
