Sheryl attended Southern Methodist University School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctorate. Before law school, Sheryl completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Sheryl is licensed to practice law in Kansas and Texas.

Sheryl is Lead Counsel Rated for Matrimonial and Domestic Law. Since 1997, Lead Counsel Verified status has been granted to attorneys who possess the right professional experience and a spotless record.

Before becoming a Senior Associate Attorney with Stange Law Firm, Sheryl spent six months working as a Law Clerk for the firm. She most recently served as an Associate Judge for the Collin County Probate Court, a role she held since 2011. In this position, she presided over involuntary mental health commitment filings and hearings, often during off-hours and with minimal supervision.

She also worked closely with hospital staff and law enforcement personnel, offering guidance on mental health procedures, and frequently speaks to public and private groups to educate them on the mental health legal process. In addition to her judicial role, Sheryl previously maintained a legal practice since 1993, representing clients in criminal, juvenile, and probate matters. Her work included handling jury and bench trials, mental health proceedings, competency hearings, and contested motions.

Sheryl attended Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers’ College in 2000 and has continued to expand her legal knowledge through graduate-level coursework. She remains committed to ongoing professional development to better serve the individuals and families she represents.

She is committed to seeking rehabilitative and supportive alternatives for clients when appropriate, including programs such as Drug Court, Veterans Court, and mental health treatment services. Sheryl has also gained experience in condemnation and Child Protective Services cases and has acted as an Ad Litem in matters involving adoption, custody, personal injury, and guardianship, advocating for the protection of individual rights throughout.
